About Peddler's Pub
A tradition of a genuinely warm welcome and first rate friendly service, is the hallmark of the friendliest watering hole in Sudbury. Whether you are alone or with a group of friends, the craic is mighty and you will always feel at home at the Peddler’s Pub. Overseas and out of town visitors will find our staff to be a valuable mine of information on Sudbury’s history and sights and can recommend others places to visit to make your stay a memorable time.
In 1903, Lord William S. O’Shea, a renowned puppeteer and merchant of fine perfumes, was becoming less enthused with puppets and his nostrils burned from excessive perfume exposure. Having grown tired of using his hands for such unpleasant ventures, he decided to try his luck with a tavern.
Lord O’Shea built his house and gardens on newly reclaimed land here on the corner of Durham and the street called Cedar. In 1905, his son, Sir Mickey O’Shea, acquired additional land, which with reclamation made possible by the building of a new sea wall, allowed the development of the area we now know as Downtown Sudbury.
After careful planning and observing the people around his neighborhood, Lord O’Shea noted the common love of beer and delicious foods within his community. And seeing as this was a time before the automobile was typical, many villagers used bicycles as their means of transportation. Peddler’s Pub was established and has been a fixture of fun and great times ever since.
